WIN FOR AVERY DREHER AND ALESSANDRO DI MARIO IN THE BELLISSIMOTO TWINS CUP CLASS
Aprilia took a double victory at Barber Motorsports Park, the third round of the MotoAmerica Championship, with the Aprilia RS660 in the Twins class. Avery Dreher won Race 1, with Italian rider Alessandro Di Mario taking the win in Race 2.
Avery Dreher, TopPro Racing Team, won Race 1 at Barber by almost three seconds. In a wet race with many crashes, Dreher managed to come out on top, taking his first win in the Twins Cup class.
Race 2 was also positive for Aprilia with Alessandro Di Mario taking his first win in the Twins class, starting from pole position. The Italian rider was able to redeem himself after a crash in Race 1 while leading the race. Completing the podium was his teammate, Gus Rodio, with the Aprilia RS660.
The Aprilia RS660 is proving to be one of the most competitive bikes in the Twins Cup class. With his victory in Race 2, Alessandro Di Mario leaves Alabama in third place in the championship standings with 86 points. Gus Rodio leads the championship with 109 points, 15 points ahead of the second placed rider. The next round of the Twins Cup will be held at Road America in Wisconsin from May 31st to June 2nd.
AVERY DREHER
“I’m super happy with Race 1 result. I knew as soon as I saw the rain start to fall that I had a chance to win. I knew that if I got a good start, I could roll around some of the other riders on the first lap. Once I got up to first place, I just tried to keep the bike up on two wheels and be as smooth as possible.”
ALESSANDRO DI MARIO
“I was able to set a new track record in qualifying. In Race 1, I didn’t really think I was going to be that fast in the wet. After Avery passed me, I tried to stick with him. Then the sun came out, and I couldn’t see anything. So when I got to Turn 3, I lost the rear, but was able to pick the bike up and get seventh. In Race 2, I just tried to manage it. I was managing the gap a little. I probably could have gone a little faster, but the front tire was sliding a lot, so I didn’t want to take the risk.”
